Operating Expenditure Summary View

Last updated: July 31, 2025

Understanding Operating Expenditure (OpEx) is essential for evaluating the long-term performance and viability of any clean technology or infrastructure project. In both techno-economic analysis (TEA) and project finance modeling (PFM), OpEx plays a critical role in determining margins, breakeven points, and return metrics.

The OpEx Summary View provides a structured breakdown of recurring operating costs across all major categories. It helps users:

  • Understand how individual cost items contribute to total OpEx

  • Group and analyze costs by type (e.g., fixed vs. variable), including key categories such as utilities, materials and consumables, labor, and maintenance

  • Assess major cost drivers and identify opportunities for cost optimization

The view includes KPI cards that surface key operating cost insights at a glance. These may include:

  • Total and subtotal values by category

  • Highest recurring cost contributors

  • Normalized metrics (e.g., cost per unit output, $/MWh, $/ton)

View Configuration

In the current release, the OpEx Summary View is configured internally by a Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE) during onboarding. The FDE works closely with the client to understand the model structure and ensure that all relevant cost terms are accurately represented in the view. All configuration is handled by our team; no user setup is required.
